What makes a full-size multi-tool

Full-size tools are built around a pair of needle-nose pliers, typically 10 cm (4 in) long closed and 220 to 340 g (7.8 to 12 oz) in weight. That size allows for a longer knife blade, a saw that actually cuts, a usable file and a bit driver, and it gives the pliers enough leverage for real work. Most models in this collection open their main blades from the outside, so the knife or saw can be deployed one-handed without unfolding the tool.

The Leatherman Wave+ is the benchmark, with 18 tools including replaceable wire cutters and a 154CM blade, and the Charge+ upgrades it with a cutting hook and S30V steel.
