Pouch or sheath
A sheath carries one tool. A pouch carries a working set: the tool itself, a bit kit and bit driver extender, a small torch, a pen and often a rescue cutter, with internal divisions or elastic loops to keep each item in its place. For anyone who builds their own kit for shift work, response driving, site work or expeditions, a pouch keeps the essentials together and accessible.
Belt and MOLLE carry
Belt pouches loop onto a duty or work belt with a fixed loop or a clip, and sit vertically or horizontally depending on the design. MOLLE pouches weave onto the PALS webbing of vests, chest rigs and packs and are secured with straps or malice clips so they stay put under movement. Most pouches are made from Cordura or ballistic nylon with a hook-and-loop or buckle flap that opens one-handed and keeps the contents dry.
Sizing
Pouch product pages list internal dimensions and the tools they are designed around. A full-size multi-tool with a bit kit needs roughly 11 x 6 cm (4.3 x 2.4 in) of internal space; smaller pouches suit pocket tools and rescue cutters. Where a specific tool is listed as compatible, the fit has been checked against that model.
