Why nylon
Ballistic and Cordura nylon shrug off rain, mud and daily abrasion, dry quickly and can be washed without losing their shape. A nylon sheath adds little weight to a belt, and most designs use a press-stud or hook-and-loop flap that opens one-handed. For anyone wearing a tool on a duty belt, plate carrier or work belt in all weathers, nylon is the sensible choice.
Fit by model
Leatherman nylon sheaths are sized to the tool: a medium fits the Wave+, Charge+ and Rebar, a large fits the Surge and Signal, and the MOLLE sheaths add webbing for vest or pack carry. Gerber's sheaths are similarly matched to the Suspension-NXT, Center-Drive and MP600. Several sheaths include an elastic side pocket that takes a bit kit or extender, so the whole kit travels together.
Belt, MOLLE and vertical carry
Standard sheaths loop over belts up to 50 mm (2 in) wide. MOLLE-compatible sheaths weave onto PALS webbing on vests, chest rigs and packs and are the choice for military, police and search and rescue users who already carry their kit that way.
